Description

Delicious and decadent Turtle Brownies featuring rich brownie batter loaded with chopped pecans, topped with creamy caramel sauce, melted chocolate chips, and a touch of flaky sea salt for a perfect balance of sweet and salty flavors.

Ingredients

Scale

Brownie Batter

  • 1 box brownie mix plus ingredients needed to prepare them
  • 1 cup chopped pecans, divided

Caramel Sauce

  • 1 cup caramel bits
  • 3 tablespoons heavy whipping cream
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Toppings

  • 1/2 cup chopped semi-sweet chocolate bar or chocolate chips
  • flaky sea salt for topping, optional

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Baking Dish: Preheat your oven to 350℉ and grease a 9×9 inch baking dish to prevent the brownies from sticking.
  2. Prepare Brownie Mix: Follow the package instructions on the brownie mix box to make the batter. Stir in 1/2 cup of chopped pecans into the prepared batter for added texture and flavor.
  3. Bake Brownies: Pour the brownie batter into the greased baking dish and bake according to the package directions. To avoid overbaking, set your timer for 5 minutes less than the recommended baking time.
  4. Make Caramel Sauce: While the brownies bake, combine caramel bits, heavy whipping cream, and salt in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave for 1 minute, stir, then continue heating in 15-30 second increments, stirring after each, until the caramel is completely smooth.
  5. Make Holes in Brownies: Once the brownies are out of the oven, use a fork or the back of a wooden spoon to poke holes about two-thirds through the brownies, being careful not to poke all the way through to the bottom.
  6. Add Caramel Sauce: Slowly pour about 3/4 of the caramel sauce over the brownies, allowing it to soak into the holes for maximum flavor infusion.
  7. Add Nuts and Chocolate: Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup chopped pecans evenly over the brownies, followed by the chopped semi-sweet chocolate or chocolate chips.
  8. Drizzle Remaining Caramel and Add Sea Salt: Drizzle the remaining caramel over the top and, if desired, sprinkle with flaky sea salt for a delightful contrast.
  9. Cool and Serve: Let the brownies cool completely to set the caramel, then cut into squares and enjoy.

Notes

  • Toast the pecans beforehand to enhance their flavor and add extra crunch.
  • If using a glass or ceramic baking dish instead of metal, increase the baking time slightly to ensure the brownies are fully cooked.
  • Adjust the amount of flaky sea salt based on your preference for a sweet-salty balance.
